VANCOUVER

A friendly neighborhood that combines waterfront living and outdoor adventure.

Welcome to Vancouver

Located on the Columbia River's north bank, Vancouver is a thriving city in Washington and Portland’s largest suburb. It is a historic city that dates back to the early 1800s, making it one of the state's oldest. Many move to Vancouver as a more affordable option to Portland because of the lower property taxes and more space.

There is no shortage of pleasant, reasonably-priced neighborhoods in Vancouver. Plenty of condos, modern apartments, and vintage homes can be found in Esther Short, Shumway, and Arnada, making them perfect for those who want to be close to the city's finest dining, shopping, and entertainment.

What to Love

  • Several historical landmarks
  • Vibrant downtown area
  • No state income tax
  • Plenty of green spaces
  • Proximity to Portland International Airport

Local Lifestyle

Vancouver has an unparalleled outdoor recreational landscape, making it perfect for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. With several parks throughout the city and more than 20 miles of spectacular trails, it's no wonder Vancouver is ranked among one of the greatest cities in America for outdoor activities. You can go swimming, canoeing, or kayaking at Vancouver Lake Regional Park.

Explore the Vancouver Waterfront Park's 7.3 acres and enjoy the scenery from Grand Street Pier, or let the youngsters burn off some energy on the park's playground. You can also take out your boat and go fishing on the Columbia River.

Dining, Entertainment, & Shopping

Downtown Vancouver is the heart of the city, filled with unique shops, antique stores, and specialty stores that cater to a wide variety of customers. Find cool apparel, accessories, and Mid-century modern furniture at Most Everything Vintage, and enjoy vintage sounds at 1709 Records. Visit Wild Fern Boutique in Hough for a one-of-a-kind collection of accessories, including shoes. Vancouver Mall has over 120 restaurants, specialty stores, and large retailers. You can also shop for naturally grown fruits and vegetables and local meats and seafood at the Vancouver Farmers Market, open from March through October on Saturdays and Sundays.

Vancouver has some amazing casual and fine dining eateries. You'll feel at home at the Kitchen Table Cafe. Indulge in delicious food while relaxing on the couch and watching your favorite channels, thanks to the restaurant's WiFi. For delicious German cuisine and imported beer on tap, head to Gustav's Pub & Grill. This is one of the best restaurants for large groups due to the full-service bar and the generous food portions. River Maiden Artisan Coffee serves delicious coffee and pastries to start your day. Other notable restaurants include Stardust Diner, Hudson's Bar and Grill, La Bottega, and Thai Orchid Restaurant

Things to Do

The Vancouver Land Bridge connects Fort Vancouver and the Columbia River waterfront. The bridge is lined with indigenous plants and boasts stunning views of the Columbia River and surrounding mountains. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy the beautiful scenery along the Waterfront Renaissance Trail. This trail connects the 7.3-acre Waterfront Park to Wintler Community Park, making it a hiker's paradise.

History buffs will love visiting Fort Vancouver National Historic Site, where they can gain insight into American trade history. You can also visit Officers Row, 21 restored homes from the 1800s. While some are private residences and offices, others are open for exploration. Just beyond the city limits is Silver Star Mountain. From the north summit, you can see Vancouver, Portland, Mount Saint Helens, and Mount Rainier.

Vancouver also hosts several annual events. The Clark County Recycled Arts Festival is the most environmentally friendly event in the Pacific Northwest and a great place to learn about sustainability. The Vancouver Wine & Jazz Festival runs for three days and features wine tastings, food vendors, and an incredible jazz and blues performance lineup. Cold Brew Fest is an amazing experience for coffee lovers. Learn about how coffee is grown and roasted, sample more than 30 cold brew varieties, and indulge in pastries as you listen to live music.
